Apply for a Community Improvement Grant

The City would like to help its residents reinvest in their own neighborhoods by offering a Community Improvement Grant. This matching grant program allows residents to identify priorities in their communities and take an active role in implementing the projects that will improve their neighborhoods' livability.

All projects are initiated, planned and implemented by community members in partnership with the city. The grant awarded matches the neighborhoods' resources of volunteer labor, donated materials, donated professional resources, and/or funds.

The grant funds will be awarded on the basis of merit, with a maximum of $1,000 available per project, per calendar year, per group. Available funding depends on the number of grant proposals received.

The grant must be something that benefits the entire neighborhood. Examples of improvements include: landscaping, planting street trees, installing signage for a neighborhood entrance, neighborhood clean-ups, special events, picnics, educational workshops, printing of newsletters, and creating a neighborhood website.

To be eligible for a Community Improvement Grant, the project must:

- Occur within Newcastle city limits
- Be initiated, planned, and implemented by community members
- Provide a public benefit
- Demonstrate community match

A team of City staff will review grant applications and make recommendations for approval based on feasibility, need, potential impact to the neighborhood, and neighborhood participation.

Applications are accepted year-round.
