Newcastle's beloved Fourth of July celebration is canceled this year due to the COVID-19 outbreak. We can't get together to see the fireworks light up the night sky, but we still want to celebrate with a different sort of display to brighten our neighborhoods.

This year, we're asking neighborhoods to decorate their sidewalks and driveways with chalk to celebrate Fourth of July. In the week leading up to Fourth of July, use chalk to draw colorful fireworks or any other design that inspires you. Chalk art your sidewalk or driveway and generate some enjoyment for your neighborhood! Just remember to follow social distancing guidelines.

Once you're done, post your creations on social media using #ChalkNewcastle, then explore your community to see what your neighbors have come up with. Don’t have chalk? No problem! The City will be distributing FREE chalk packs at the following drive-thru-locations. Simply drive up and we’ll place the kit in your vehicle for safe, no contact delivery. Limit one kit per household. Newcastle residents only. While supplies last.

*Bonus: Thanks to a generous donation from King County, the City will also be distributing a limited amount of cloth face coverings. If you are a Newcastle resident that does not have access to a mask or does not have the ability to purchase/make a mask, we’ll have some available when you come to pick up your chalk at the following locations, while supplies last!*
