The City of Newcastle is pleased to welcome Chief of Police Scott Mandella, who brings nearly two decades of law enforcement experience and a proven record of community-focused leadership.
Chief Mandella joined the King County Sheriff’s Office in 2007 after returning from service in Operation Enduring Freedom. He spent 16 years with the Burien Police Department serving in a variety of roles, including patrol deputy, detective in both the Criminal Investigation Unit and Crime Reduction Unit, and as a Law Enforcement Co-Responder. In 2022, he launched KCSO’s first Co-Response Unit, pairing officers with mental health professionals to improve crisis response and connect residents to care.
Promoted to Sergeant in 2023, Chief Mandella most recently served with the Shoreline Police Department, where he supervised patrol officers, the K9 team, and four crisis responders. As a trained Crisis Negotiator, he is recognized for his calm leadership, focus on de-escalation, and commitment to building trust between law enforcement and the communities he serves.
A lifelong East King County resident, Chief Mandella and his wife, Kelly, have been married for 25 years. They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
Please join us in welcoming Chief Mandella to Newcastle. We look forward to his leadership and partnership in keeping our community safe.
