Councilmember Paul Charbonneau
Councilmember Charbonneau was elected in 2021 as the first councilmember to be raised in the city. He’s a graduate of local schools (Hazen '15), and, at the age of 24, the youngest to serve on Newcastle City Council.
Paul attended Occidental College on scholarships, where he graduated with a B.A. in Political Science & Public Health while serving as the school's youngest ever student president and a two-sport NCAA athlete. Paul also studied as a Public Policy & International Affairs (PPIA) fellow at the University of Michigan's Ford School of Public Policy.
Paul has worked as an Assistant Wrestling Coach at Hazen High School in the Renton School District since 2017, and also runs the team's strength & conditioning program.
Paul is passionate about mental health and, in addition to being a Certified Peer Counselor with the state, serves on the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) Washington public policy committee and as the Government Affairs director for the National Alliance on Mental Illness - Eastside King County. Paul also volunteers as the Government Affairs director for a statewide organization that focuses on elevating the voices of and electing people 35 and under.
Paul loves hearing from residents (it's his counselor-side), and he strongly encourages residents to email him or to approach him on one of his frequent walks around Newcastle's trails and parks.
