🌿 Newcastle Historic Cemetery Open House
đź“… Monday, May 25
đź•™ 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. (Drop in anytime!)
📍 7811 129th Ave. SE, Newcastle
Hosted by the Newcastle Historical Society, this special Open House invites you to explore one of Newcastle’s hidden treasures - the Historic Newcastle Cemetery. Tucked into a forested hillside overlooking Lake Boren, the cemetery is usually closed to protect it from vandalism, but it opens for this one-day event on Memorial Day.
Covering just over two acres, the cemetery has served as the final resting place for coal miners and their families since the 1870s. It’s a rare, tangible connection to the diverse nationalities who shaped Newcastle’s coal-mining history.
What to expect:
--Docent-led tour at 2:00 p.m.
--Peaceful, self-guided walks through the site
--Stories about those buried here and the cemetery’s cultural significance
--A chance to learn more about Newcastle’s rich past
Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with local history in a truly meaningful setting. All are welcome!
