Mayor Linda Newing
Linda Newing moved to the City of Newcastle in 2004, but her family’s roots in the area date back to 1967, when her husband Geof’s family relocated from England. Geof and Linda were initially drawn to Newcastle due to its proximity to family and work. They quickly fell in love with their new home and in 2013, Linda was moved to serve her community, first as a member of the City’s volunteer Community Activities Commission (2013-15). She’s now in her second term on the Newcastle City Council, first elected for a four-year term starting in 2016, then re-elected in November 2019. In 2020, the City Council elected her to serve as Newcastle’s Mayor for a two-year term.
Linda studied tax and public accounting in college and has experience managing budgets and grants over the course of her career. She currently works in the public works department for a neighboring municipality, where she manages a portion of the department’s budget and grants. The role gives her a front-row seat to understanding municipal government, especially public works and the regulations faced by government entities.
She lives in the Terry Meadows neighborhood with Geof, her husband of 14 years. In their spare time, they are certified USATF track and field officials, volunteering their time at local high school track and cross country meets, including state championship meets, as well as UW college meets. Linda enjoys playing the piano as well as cooking and baking.
