Deputy Mayor Tom Magers

Tom and his wife Patti moved to northwest Newcastle in late 2003. The Magers settled in Newcastle for its prime location (close to employment centers) and the small-town feel. They love where they live! Tom, now in his first term on the Newcastle City Council, was elected for a four-year term starting in 2018.

Tom is retired from his career as a business executive for major retail corporations in the U.S. and Mexico. With a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Washington, he enjoyed both the technical and the managerial aspects of his business career. One of his most rewarding assignments was learning Spanish on-the-job while living in Mexico as Corporate Director of an international joint venture.

For the Magers, public service is a family affair. Prior to Tom’s election to the City Council in 2018, he served as a volunteer Planning Commissioner for eight years, chairing the Commission during his final two years. Patti is no stranger to the volunteer efforts in Newcastle, either. She’s served on the City’s volunteer Community Activities Commission for four years, and was elected its Chairperson in 2020.
