A Thriving City with Expanding Commercial Opportunities

Newcastle is experiencing record levels of new development, which translates into opportunity for prospective and existing businesses. In the downtown core, new residents have started moving in to Newcastle Commons, an AvalonBay community that will contain nearly 1,000 occupancy units. The Tria Apartments, with 76 units, are nearing completion and other apartment communities are in planning stages. Coal Creek Parkway carries about 35,000 motorists per day through the downtown sector, many who are commuting to jobs in other areas.

Due to unprecedented growth, last year city officials started the process of updating the city's vision for the downtown area. As part of the process, a consultant prepared an assessment that provides sound data for a Downtown Newcastle Strategic Plan. The Newcastle Community Business Center Assessment is packed with useful economic and demographic information. It shows Newcastle has a young, diverse and well-educated population and provides information on their opinions. Data concerning future residents and development activity, non-residential space, public spaces and Newcastle's position within the surrounding area, among other data is presented in a useful format. Despite Newcastle's growth, the city maintains a small community feel. Newcastle's wooded trails, tree-lined streets and city parks and the proximity to Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park provide abundant recreational retreats. Due to the city's location near Bellevue's commercial center within the Seattle metropolitan area, residents also have easy access to jobs and big city amenities. Newcastle appeared on Money magazine's list of "Best Places to Live" on three separate occasions, and was named as one of the "Best Affordable Suburbs" by Bloomberg Business week.

The primary attraction in Newcastle is the Golf Club at Newcastle, the flagship course of renowned designer Scott Oki that sits high above the city. The best view in Newcastle is from the golf course, Bellevue's skyline to the north, the Cascade Mountains to the east, and Lake Washington and Seattle to the west. At the center of the complex is a 44,000 square-foot clubhouse and restaurant.
