City Receives King County Parks Grant

The basketball hoops at Lake Boren Park are getting an upgrade, thanks to a grant from King County Parks.

The King County Youth and Amateur Sports Grant will fund the replacement of the basketball hoops and volleyball net in Newcastle’s largest and most-visited park. The city will also use the $5,000 grant to re-stripe the mostly faded-away lines on the basketball court in Highlands Park.

City staff members say the improvements could reasonably be in place in August. A special thank you to King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn, who helped facilitate this funding opportunity.
