April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Posted on 04/12/2017

Mayor Rich Crispo signed a proclamation recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Newcastle.

The goal of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is to raise public awareness about sexual violence, to educate communities on how to prevent it and to give individuals the chance to speak out about ending sexual violence.

Here's how you can make a difference:

— Start conversations online and in person.
Follow King County Sexual Assault Resource Center on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to share KCSARC’s conversation starters and awareness-building tools during SAAM.

— Talk to the young people in your life.
Everyone has an opportunity to talk about consent, healthy boundaries, and positive relationships. Use 100 Conversations to help guide conversations with teens; he told me not to tell to help conversations with children.

— Believe, listen to, and share the stories of survivors of sexual assault.
Amplify the stories of survivors to raise awareness about the prevalence and impact of sexual violence.

— Reach out if you—or someone you know—needs help.
You can call the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center, 24-7. It’s never too late to get help: 888.99.VOICE.

— Spread the word about Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Talk to your friends, communities, and neighbors — do they know it’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Newcastle this April?
