Children & Families

Fun by the Fireside Sing-Along Show
Saturday, December 2, 11:30am
Presented by Elephant Umbrella (Mike Gervais and Lisa Taylor). Family program, all ages welcome with adult.
It might be cold outside but here's your chance to pretend you're enjoying hot cocoa and cozying up to an imaginary fire while singing and dancing along to memorable tunes about fall and winter.

Toddler Story Times
Monday, December 4, 10:15am and 11:30am
Ages 1 to 3 with adult. Stories, songs and fun!

Play & Learn Chinese
Tuesday, December 5 and 12, 10:30am
Newborn to age 5 with adult. Have fun singing songs, sharing books and stories, creating art and playing. This program is conducted primarily in Chinese but the facilitator is a bilingual English/Chinese speaker.

Infant Story Time
Wednesday, December 6, 10:15am
Newborn to 12 months with adult. Stories, songs and fun!

Preschool Story Time
Wednesday, December 6, 11:30am
Ages 3 to 5 with adult. Stories, songs and fun!

Japanese Story Time
Thursday, December 7 and 14, 10:30am

Study Zone

Grades K-12. Drop in for free homework help from trained volunteer tutors.

IdeaX: Kerbal Space Program Club
Wednesday, December 6, 6pm

Ages 10 to 17. Join fans of rockets, space travel, and explosions in playing the award-winning computer game Kerbal Space Program! Use one of the library’s laptops or bring your own if you already play. Space is limited. First come, first served.

Newcastle Youth Community Engagement (NYCE)
Wednesday, December 13, 6:30pm
Held at Newcastle City Hall, 12835 Newcastle Way #200, Newcastle, WA 98056.

Attention middle and high school students! Volunteer and join Newcastle Youth Community Engagement (NYCE) to help the Newcastle Library and the City of Newcastle create the programs, services, and events you want to see! Munch on snacks and have fun while you make a difference!

Friends of the Newcastle Library Mini Book Sale
Friday, December 1 and Saturday, December 2, during library open hours
There will be hundreds of books for all ages in a wide-ranging selection of genres

SHIBA Counseling in Chinese and English

Volunteers from Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisor (SHIBA) will offer free, unbiased individual health benefits counseling in Chinese and English.

Newcastle Library 5th Birthday Celebration

Newcastle Library is five years old! Join us to celebrate with fun and tasty programs for the whole family.
11:30am-Fun by the Fireside Sing-Along Show

12:30-2pm-Backroom Secrets
Curious what goes on in the staff workroom? Take a 10 minute tour and find out! Tours are on the half hour (12:30pm, 1pm, 1:30pm and 2pm).
Tours are limited to 10 people.
2:30pm-Pop-Up Birthday Cupcake Shop
Ages 7 and younger must be with adult.
Did we mention there would be cake?! Stop in to decorate a cupcake with Chef Laurie Pfalzer. Each person may decorate one cupcake. While supplies last.

Talk Time Classes

An experienced genealogist facilitates each meeting.

STARTS Workshop: Sing and Move Into Reading!
Saturday, December 16, 1:30pm
Before we can read, we can sing! Singing is one of the easiest and most effective ways to build early literacy skills from birth. Join singer-songwriter Nancy Stewart and learn twenty simple songs for infants and toddlers. Also learn how to make simple props and rhythm instruments, and how to use library materials and technology in a new way.
Provides (2) STARS credit hours in Child Growth and Development or Curriculum and Learning Environments.
First come, first served.

The Dickens Carolers
Saturday, December 23, 2pm
Bring your friends and family and join us for music and holiday cheer. Adorned in elegant Victorian dress, an a cappella quartet of two ladies in luxurious velvet and two gentlemen wearing handsome tailcoats and top hats sing your holiday favorites, both traditional and contemporary, in beautiful four-part harmony.

Eastside Baby Corner Giving Tree
November 16-December 13
Drop by the library to choose a gift tag from the tree. Purchase the item and drop it in our collection bin for Eastside Baby Corner. Eastside Baby Corner (EBC) helps kids thrive by providing basic necessities for children, helping families become stable, safe, housed, fed and employed.
